Liè wèi hao, 老师们好，同学们好，

 Honoured guests, esteemed professors, and my fellow students, good afternoon:

 I have the privilege of appearing before you today, to represent 2018's incoming cohort of international students to Fudan University.

 We are, a diverse group, who yet have much in common.

 We bring with us all a manner of educational levels and academic backgrounds. Some of us are here on language programs; some of us come to do our undergraduate degrees; some of us—myself included—are seeking to further our studies with postgraduate Masters; and some of us seek to become doctors.

 Some of us are here for only a semester...while others might make Fudan our home for years to come.

 And we come from all the corners of the Earth: East, South, West and North.

 But yet, we have much in common: we all chose to come here...Why?

 Fudan University: this is a name that is known around the world. All over, people know this place as a centre of academic excellence.And so, from all over the world—people with a love for learning—seek to come here to learn.

 And so, we must be grateful. We, gathered here today, are the lucky few who were accepted, the lucky few who made it in, the lucky few who—through our hard work and good fortune—gained the opportunity to become a part of the Fudan family, to live in the beautiful city of Shanghai, and to be hosted by the People's Republic of China..

 This is an unparalleled privilege:no matter our study or discipline, we will surely benefit from the rich scholastic traditions that have been developing here for the past 5,000 years.

 With this privilege, this opportunity though, comes a heavy responsibility: while we worked hard to earn our spot here, we must now work even harder to earn our right to stay.With our diligence we must prove ourselves worthy and with a great tenacity must we seek out the knowledge that will quench our love of learning.

 So with that, let us dedicate ourselves to productivity—be it for only months or for years to come—let us make our arrival the new dawn in our lives that Fudan's name promises. Let us 加油！

 And with that, I will say: good luck.
