In August 2024, the School of Philosophy at Fudan University and the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna successfully renewed a five-year academic cooperation agreement, marking a further consolidation and deepening of their collaborative relationship in related fields.

Since Fudan University and the University of Vienna signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2019, cooperation and exchanges between the two universities have continued to grow, laying a solid foundation for departmental-level collaboration between Fudan’s School of Philosophy and Vienna’s Department of Art History.

In 2019, the two departments officially signed a cooperation agreement, initiating a series of collaborative projects, including co-hosted academic events, faculty exchanges, and student exchange programs.

Over the past few years, the two departments have jointly organized a number of academic events, such as the workshop “The Construction of Art and Space,” the workshop “Constructing the Sacred Image—Perspectives from Byzantine and Buddhist Traditions,” and the lecture series “Islamic Art,” all of which received positive responses. In 2023, a professor from the Department of Psychology at the University of Vienna visited Fudan to explore possibilities for research collaboration in the field of experimental aesthetics, further expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation.

In addition, both sides are actively working on enhancing student exchange programs, planning to increase the number of exchange placements under the existing framework to promote broader international engagement for students.

The renewed agreement includes a variety of initiatives, such as jointly organized workshops, faculty exchanges involving lectures and seminars, and exchange programs for master’s and doctoral students. Professor Zhang Shuangli, Dean of the School of Philosophy at Fudan University, and Professor Markus Ritter, Head of the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.

This renewed academic cooperation agreement not only provides more opportunities for scholarly collaboration but also offers students a broader platform for international exchange. Both universities look forward to achieving further academic and cultural exchange outcomes through future collaboration.
