The School of Philosophy adheres firmly to the motto of “scholarship as the spirit, quality as the foundation.” Relying on the strengths of its philosophy discipline, the School advances the strategy to comprehensively enhance the quality of graduate education and teaching across all areas — including recruitment, training, and degree granting — with the aim of cultivating talents in the field of philosophy.
Currently, the School of Philosophy has XX graduate students enrolled, distributed across nine disciplinary areas: Marxism Philosophy, Western Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Marxism Philosophy in Foreign Countries, Ethics, Religious Studies, Philosophy of Science and Logic, and Philosophy of Art. The School offers XX master's degree programs and XX doctoral degree programs. It was the first in the country to establish a professional master’s program in Applied Ethics and to launch an interdisciplinary doctoral pilot program integrating Political Science, Philosophy, and Law.
The School is committed to promoting international communication and collaboration, aiming to strengthen graduate students' capacity for international academia. Each year, it invites oversea scholars to offer 4–5 English-taught graduate courses and organizes nearly a hundred academic lectures. It also runs the Fudan Philosophy International Summer School, expanding students' global perspectives and enhancing academic competence. The School continues to strengthen the English-taught MA program in “Chinese Philosophy and Culture” and promotes academic exchanges between Chinese and overseas graduate students. Institutional support is provided for international exchange programs, maintaining partnerships with 11 renowned overseas universities. Dual-degree programs have been established with the University of Western Ontario (Canada), the University of Venice (Italy), and the University of Vienna (Austria), with four students having already studied at Western Ontario.
