Shen Yubing is Distinguished Professor at Fudan University, the Executive Dean of Fudan Art Institute, and the Chair of the Department of Philosophy of Art. His monographs Art Criticism in the 20th Century and Image and Meaning were awarded Second Prize in the Ministry of Education's 4th and 8th National Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education (2006, 2020). His translation The Painting of Modern Life and monograph Image and Meaning were both nominated for the AAC “Artron Art China” Annual Art Book Award (2014, 2017).

Shen has independently or collaboratively translated 20 seminal works on art history and theory. In recognition of his dedication to systematically translating and introducing contemporary Western art theories, significantly contributing to Chinese art studies and enriching the academic horizon of the Chinese-speaking world, he received the Art Theory Award at the 2nd Contemporary Art Thought Forum (2013).

His recent publication, Image and Eros: Manet’s Painting, was shortlisted for the Commercial Press’2023 Academic Top Ten Books and selected as one of New Weekly’s 2023 Books of the Year. Currently he is working on a book about Cézanne.
