SUN Xiangchen is a distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Fudan University.
He served as Dean of the School of Philosophy at Fudan University from 2011 to 2023. Currently, he is the Deputy Director of the University's Academic Committee (and Director of the Humanities Division) and the Deputy Director of the University's Degree Evaluation Committee (and Director of the Humanities Division).
Professor Sun has held visiting scholar positions at Yale University (2003-2004) and the University of Chicago (2011), and was a visiting professor at the Free University of Berlin (2019), ENS (2016), and EHESS (2025).
His professional affiliations include Vice President of the Chinese Association of the History of Western Philosophy, President of the Shanghai Philosophical Society, Director of the French Philosophy Committee, Member of the Steering Committee of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies, and Member of the Council of the World Conference of Sinology. He also serves as co-chief-editor of the Journal of Contemporary Philosophy and General Education Review.
His research focuses on early modern Western philosophy, Levinas's philosophy and comparative philosophy
Professor Sun's notable publications include On Family: Individual and Qinqin (Affection for Kin) (2019), Facing the Other: On Levinas’ Philosophical Thought (2008), and the co-authored Metaphysics in the 17th Century (2006).
